Re: [mexicanbandsters] Pills

2006-10-31 22:44:43

Most people can take whole pills after surgery, remember unless you are very , very swollen they will go down. But if you have any problems with pills, crush them up. You may want to crush them just for the heck of it, but I took pills right away, especially slick smooth ones, and that was within the first week, but I must not have been very swollen at all. Drink lots of liquids to push medication on through.

Don't forget slippers! (long)

2006-10-31 16:46:51

Hello,
I have just returned home from getting banded by Dr. Kuri. He was very
kind as was the nursing hospital at the hospital. I did not choose the
new hospital and instead went to the old one as Dr. Kuri assured me
that it was clean and efficient. He was right.
After reading the list for weeks, I gathered up some items that I would
need for my brief hospital stay. With me went:
1 gown
1 bath towel
1 wash cloth
change of underwear
extra socks in case my feet got cold
appropriate toiletries
1 book
portable music
I never wore the gown. The hospital gown isn't the best, but it opens
easily and doesn't get wrapped around your legs when climbing slowly in
and out of bed. The towels were quite handy and that little piece of
home made me feel comforted.
The socks were unnecessary as I had those compression hose on. In fact,
I was rather warm my entire 27 hour stay. I didn't crack open the book.
With the nurse comings and goings and my constant sleepiness from the
medication, I couldn't focus on tiny words. The music was great. But I
didn't take slippers! Walking around on the hospital floor after
surgery had my feet cold in no time. Fortunately the compression hose
weren't slippery.
I feel amazingly well. If I didn't have gas pain and if I hadn't seen
my band on my x-ray, I would be skeptical about actually having had
surgery. My incisions, especially the port incision, feel heavy and my
muscles ache like I've done 100 sit-ups, but that's it. The only real
discomfort I have is my neck after sitting up in the hospital bed for
so long (I'm a stomach sleeper).
One word of warning, the nursing staff at the hospital do not speak
much English. I am very fortunate to speak some Spanish but they taxed
my limited ability. Very often, my Spanish was better than the nurse's
English. Still, we managed to have quite a few laughs and they left me
feeling well taken care of. I learned some new vocabulary and so did
they.
The journey begins. I'm feeling hungry yet positive that this surgery
and tool will help me to accomplish my weight loss goals.

What is wrong with not leaving a pouch/dr kuri-RIDICULOUS

Thanks for clearing this up. I read it when I was tired. I had time to
think during my commute and decided it must be nonsense. However, I can't
understand what would possess someone to say things like that. I guess that is
why
people can sue for slander. There is damage even if it's found out to be
untrue. Once the info is out there people often continue to wonder or remember
something negative. Nasty business!! A good reminder to all how unkind and
dangerous gossip can be.

FILLS BY DR SNOW IN DECATUR

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has had fills done by Dr. Snow in Decatur.
I heard that without the Fluro they cost $150, but I was wondering if
anyone knows how much it costs with Fluro?
Thanks!

Kim,
THIS is the most RIDICULOUS slanderous statement I've ever read some
jealous, misinformed person EVER write about our beloved Dr. Kuri. Is
this person insinuating that my food packs into my esophagus before
going through the band into my stomach? That my esophagus tells my
brain that I am full? My goodness! Of course I have a pouch, I've
seen it with my own eyes on the fluroscope during my fills. If I have
a pouch, and my surgeon is Dr. Kuri, then...I guess he does perform
the surgery the same as the other surgeons out there TRAINED &
APPROVED by Inamed to install this band; unless of course a lobotomy
was thrown in as an extra for the original writer of this trash--then
that explains it! You'll be in great hands, decipher through the
obscurities...wow!

Dr. Ortiz suggests going back on liquids for @ 5 days after a fill. I have
had 4 fills and
one sllight unfill in my year of banding. Yes, everyone is different as to
how much of
an adjustment you will need and how many. A fill is really a simple
procedure and doesn't
hurt more than a shot does. Dr. Ortiz also suggests your first fill at 6-8
weeks post banding.
Good luck

Re: [mexicanbandsters] Wheelchairs

2006-10-27 20:05:56

I had a wheelchair arranged for my husband who has congestive hear failure and can't walk 30 feet at a time, both going and coming to the airports. That was a life saver. Then I had a wheelchair arranged for me both going and coming as well , couldn't walk due to back pain and probably fat. Coming back, I was glad I did because not only was I still fat and had back pain but I had "front" soreness a whole lot and did not feel like pulling my suitcase all over creation by myself. When we were leaving Mexico, bell hops seeing us coming would actually run to help my husband when we were pulling our suitcases anywhere, and they'd grab his and I was the operated on person, but he just looks so frail and I guess I looked robust. They'd leave me to pull my own.

Wheelchairs do help a whole lot if you need one.

My flight leaves tomorrow!

2006-10-27 07:24:51

I just wanted to ask you all for any last minute advice.... I am so nervous right now. As a nursing student I know a lot about what can go wrong surgically, but to be honest I am most worried about post-op-- will this work for me?
This year has been terrible, I miss my Mom so much right now and so wish that she had made this decision before trying the Medifast program. I know that this is MY last best chance for a healthy long life and that just terrifies me. Will I be able to reform years of not watching what I ate? Will I be able to drag my butt to exercise at least a few times a week consistently? Will I take whatever steps necessary to ensure good follow-up care? And, lastly and probably most importantly, will I finally go to counseling to try and resolve whatever issues that helped me to be 100 lbs overweight? I really hope so, but I am so worried that I will fail at this too.
Maybe, I am just genetically programmed to be fat. I know that my diet has contributed to it, but maybe this is how I am meant to look... Everyone in my family is fat, if I get the weight off I will be the first woman in my family to be a "normal" weight after having a baby.
Saturday is the big day and I am both excited and terrified. Is this normal? Did you all feel this way too?
Thanks,
~Lea

Trish and any other newly banded

2006-10-27 01:41:06

Hi Trish,
I thought I would post my experience just in case in might help you
or someone else. I was banded 10-10-03 and also felt like total crap
afterwards. I had HORRIBLE, sometimes crippling gas pains and gas-x
did absolutely NOTHING for me. I had surgery on a Friday and was
scheduled to go back to work on Tuesday but that certainly didn't
happen. I was too miserable to even get out of bed. I was so
desperate to get some relief I contacted a massotherapist to see if
she could help me. It ends up that she had a lady working out of her
office that does "energy work". She did a procedure on me called jin
shin jyutsu. She laid her hands on me in specific areas. It hardly
felt like she was touching me and to tell you the truth at first I
thought she was a quack because I didn't think what she was doing
couldn't possibly help me. But much to my surprise it made a HUGE
difference. Basically the best way I can describe it is that it got
things moving and much of the bloated feeling subsided. She told me
that the gas gets "stuck" around your organs and such and you need to
get your body's energy flowing to release it. I've had three of
these treatments (all followed by a massage just for the heck of it)
and I'm finally starting to feel normal again. I still have some gas
problems but not constant and not nearly as bad. I'm hoping they
subside soon.
One more suggestion I have for anyone flying to Mexico to get
banded. ARRANGE FOR A WHEELCHAIR TO MEET YOU AT THE PLANE ON YOUR
FLIGHT BACK INTO THE STATES!! I didn't think to do this and had a
horrible time. I went alone and had nobody to help me with my bags.
The airport was extremely crowded and trying to get through customs
was an absolute madhouse. I was in extreme pain and tried to get a
ride to my gate but was told no one was available to do so.
Good luck to everyone on this grand journey.

or other liquids with calories...you may just maintain...and that is
o.k.....as it has been said umpteen times...this is your time for
healing....losing is for after you get a good fill! Kathy
had surgery the day before I did. I have only lost 4 lbs! I am
pretty disgusted. Not to mention that I am not a happy camper with
how I feel physically at this point, but it is just so unfair to be
starving myself on this stupid liquid diet and still not losing.

Broken Port

2006-10-25 12:57:21

I have a question for all my fellow bandsters. Have any of you ever
had your fill doctor break your port? And if so, did they fix it for
free? I went for a fill on monday and he pulled out all the saline
he had put in the last visit and added some more. It was too much so
he went in a second time and poked and poked and poked until he found
my port and took out some saline. I went home and after being on
liquids for two days I ate and found I had no restriction! I went
back today and when he pulled the saline out there was alot less than
he put in so he filled it and had me wait. He pulled it out again
and yes indeed there was a leek. I told him it must of happened when
he took some out the last time and he agreed and apologized for
breaking my port. I kind of feel that since he broke it he should
fix it free of charge. They said they would set me up to fix it but
then asked for my insurance card. I'm confused. Am I totally off
base for thinking he should fix this for free? I need some advise.

then :/ I think that our bodies are all differant, don't worry your

Re: [mexicanbandsters] fills and food afterwards

After a fill you only need to be on liquids for the rest of the day. If your fill

But either way you will certainly be able to eat solid food by Christmas...enjoy!

X-post Not a chronic dieter

2006-10-23 13:23:20

I guess today is my day for curiosity or dumb questions (maybe I have those a lot of days). I just read Jessie comments about most of us having been chronic dieters over the last few years. I know this isn't true for me. I was on a diet 20 years ago and haven't been on one since. I got the band because I was afraid that I would only get bigger if I didn't do something. I knew that I wouldn't follow any diet and I saw no reason to give my money to someone for something that I didn't believe in (WW, Jenny Craig etc). The diet that I went on 20 years ago is the same one that I am willing to follow now. I can eat anything that I want, whenever I want, as long as it's good for me. The good for me portion implies band tolerant. It doesn't mean junk food. It means common sense.

Are there other people who haven't dieted often?

Cathy

Re: [mexicanbandsters] X-post Not a chronic dieter

I have dieted in my mind only. hehehe I have never
dieted because I knew that I couldn't stick to it. I
forgot that I was supposed to diet but by then, it was
dinner time. I never thought about WW or anything
like it. My habits just finally caught up with me and
it was time to do something.

Re: fills and food afterwards-Holidays & Fills

2006-10-23 08:20:44

Meredith,
After a fill you are normally on liquids for 24hrs, then back to your
normal diet (just smaller portions), unless you have a "tight" fill.
If you have a "tight" fill, then you'll be on whatever you can get
down :) I'm sure you'll find posts on food selections for a tight
fill. I'll get a lot of feedback on the following, however my opinion
on having a fill vs eating a Holiday meal (or for the Holiday season)
is: For crying out loud, we all had this surgery to lose weight.
Regardless of whether its Thanksgiving, or our 25th wedding
anniversary, my priority is to lose this weight. Certainly, I'll be
the first to admit I overdo the food stuff when I plan for the
Holidays, always have, always will--I LOVE HOLIDAYS AND ENTERTAINING!
Just because I have a fill right before the Holidays doesn't
insinuate that I'm going to lose-out and have a horrible, or less
meaningful time with family and friends. In fact, having a fill means
I can enjoy myself more because I know I'll have the willpower (from
my band) to not overeat. Priorities...get you fill, I guarantee
you'll be eating every day :)
Happy Holidays To You :)

I do know your surgeon. I had my surgery done there on Sept 12, 2003
I have lost 35 lbs. The surgery was done and I went home there were
no warm bedside tales to tell sorry! I met the Dr. once and he did my
surgery I saw his asst. once afterwards and then off to the Hotel. I
left the next morning. It was not glorified with any heart to heart
conversations. I am okay with it now. I went by myself I was scared
to death but I made it through it fine. There was another patient
there having the same thing done so we were huge support to each
other!
If you are looking for something of a warm fuzzy experience that
would not be the place. When I came home I almost felt cheated after
reading how everyone got this wonderful treatment from there Dr.'s
but I don't plan on seeing Dr. Verboonen again... so I am okay now!
I do know where they are if I do ever need anything and that is a

Re: [mexicanbandsters] Not losing weight??!

Trish, go and get you some Adkins Shakes (Choc Delight, my personal fav). You need some protein in your life, something you just wont get much of in the broths and such. The protein will stay with you longer, therefor you wont get hungry as fast. But remember your on liquids...so about every 2 hours you will have to put something in your mouth to subside the hunger pains. But Martha is right, you need to concentrate on healing right now... weight loss will come. The fact that some people have lost more than others directly after surgery has to do with how much water they took in before their surgery. If you didn't drink much water and did drink a lot of soda or caffeinated drinks.... you will loose a lot of water weight following surgery. That is all that we are loosing in the beginning is water weight. Keep your chin up, the real weight loss payoff is coming for us!!.

Trish, give it a LITTLE time, tell me in six months that you have not lost some more weight and then I'll begin to consider whether or not I feel sorry for you, but you are not supposed to be losing weight now, you are supposed to be healing now , healing now, healing now, healing now. Quit bitching and do your work and you will be skinny one day. My gosh, you just had surgery a few days ago. For a nurse you sure are impatient, you know healing takes time and losing weight takes time, and you aren't inclined to lose weight until you get fills anyway. Man, lay back, rest up, if you can't find anything else to do , go exercise. Haven't you been reading all the stuff printed off on these sites? If so, then you know magic is a mystery.

You will be fine! Take care.

Beth, you will love Dr. Rumbaut! He is a sweetheart. Not only is he one of the most experienced doctors in Mexico, he has the band himself. So he knows from personal experience what we all have gone through with being overweight and he knows what we will be going through as far as weightloss with the band. He has been banded himself for 6 years, and has lost about 110 pounds (took about a year). I was curious to who performed his surgery. Really I wanted to know if he had any of the other Mexican surgons do his surgery, nope.... he had "Big Pappa" come and do his. Dr. Faveretti of Italy, who "developed and standardized the surgical technique for the laparoscopic application of gastric banding (LAP-BAND) with Dr. Guy-Bernard Cadiere in September 1993 "(quoted from ILOST website LAP-BAND: Laparoscopic Obesity Surgery). I have been telling everyone...make sure you pack Gas-X Maximum strength with you... it will totally kill the gas pains that you would experiance...that
is the worst thing about the entire surgury. So pack it!!!! Hahahaha!

Do you know my surgeon?

2006-10-20 22:16:21

Hi Everyone!
I have been researching WLS's for years now and am leaning hard
toward the AGB. Because I do not have insurance, the cost of the
surgery is an important factor. I have opted to have the surgery done
in Tijuana, Mexico by Dr. Verboonen and Dr. Ponce de Leon. I wanted
to know if anyone here used these doctors and if so, if you would be
so kind as to share your experience with me. I found them on

Not losing weight??!

2006-10-20 12:30:51

I have seen a few people post about losing 10-12 lbs. and having had surgery the day before I did. I have only lost 4 lbs! I am pretty disgusted. Not to mention that I am not a happy camper with how I feel physically at this point, but it is just so unfair to be starving myself on this stupid liquid diet and still not losing.

I am drinking water, apple juice, chicken broth and having sugar free jello.

What gives??

Amy suggestions??

I also agree with Kathy and I was not banded by Dr. Kuri. I attented
the Bash this Labor Day Weekend and met him for this first time.
I was originally scheduled for a fill with another physician and
when that was cancelled Dr.Kuri graciously agreed to see me. There
were at least 10 people waiting for fills that were already
scheduled and he squeezed me in. When I thanked him for seeing me
he replied, "I'll take good care of you.". Not only was the fill
painless it was perfect! No pain and the correct restriction.
IMO, Dr. Kuri is not only a skilled surgeon but he has a wonderful
bedside manner.

everything on top of that. Sounds like a Twilight Zone to me. I got

I can't say that the nurses at the hospital are a reflection of the
doctor's practice. In general I think we all probably were a little
amazed at the nursing care in Mexico....they didn't come in unless
you called...and mostly none of them spoke any English...they didn't
wake you up if you were asleep....so in the dark, perhaps the nurse
just did not realize her IV was infiltrated. All in all...my
experience was acceptable and I got home alive...that is what i am
grateful for!!!! Oasis hospital is a really nice place compared to
some other hospitals there, there are lots of American patients.

Re: [mexicanbandsters] Trish's Doctor

2006-10-18 18:33:16

Allena,

Yes, I will tell you. But it had nothing to do with Dr. Lopez, he was a great surgeon.

Here is my story.

Hi. I am pretty sure that what I am going through is somewhat normal. I am
very, very tight right now, and the remaining gas isn't helping. I am sure that everyone's
experience is different. I know that as soon as I start to see the weight
coming off that I will be pleased with my decision.
Dr. Lopez couldn't have been nicer, I just didn't see much of him. I
saw Dr. Carmen more than anyone, and that wasn't much.
I was told to go without food or water on Thursday, since I was flying down
they would probably do the surgery that night, they didn't. By the time I
had seen the psychologist (whom I didn't like... she was very snooty) and
talked with both Dr.'s, and got to the hospital it was 8:30 pm Tijuana time.
I was SO hungry that I got a migraine! It took over 45 minutes just to get a
nurse to get me something for my head and bring me some fruit and juice!!
I had surgery Friday evening.
Right before I went into the OR, a nurse gave me two injections through my
IV site and immediately my entire right arm began to swell unbelievably
large, get red splotches and itch. I was being wheeled into the OR pleading
with everyone I saw "Hablo ingles??!!" No one knew what I was talking about
until I got to the anesthesiologist inside the operating room. He just
smiled and gave me another injection and it subsided somewhat. I shudder to
think what would have happened had it been a systemic reaction rather than
just local in my arm. And I am not allergic to anything that I know of.
My IV infiltrated (leaked into my hand) on Saturday evening while I was
sleeping and the nurse did not do anything about it, but proceeded to inject
more pain medication and stomach medication into the IV. Made it 10x worse.
My hand looked like it was swollen about 4x its regular size. It is still
very sore.
I have a HUGE purple bruise in the middle of my abdomen. When I asked Dr.
Carmen if it was normal, she said NO, left the room and came back 5 minutes
later stating just to keep ice on it and it would be ok. That did not make
me feel very good. But, it hasn't killed me and it is barely beginning to
subside. Of course, being a RN, I am worried sick about every little thing,
immediately I thought I was hemorrhaging when I saw it. It did not come to
the surface until late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
Also, I went alone. I would NEVER EVER EVER suggest that anyone go it alone.
I was homesick and miserable. Had no one to talk to, and the tv stations are
crappy!!
That is just my little rant/vent about banding in TJ. Hugs,
Trish

Your message is a sensible one, you are looking for a good Doctor and it *is*

very confusing. There are many Doctors in Tijuana, so it's difficult to make a

decision.

Dr. Kuri was a fine choice he has done hundreds of bands, yes there may

be some who have done thousands, the law of averages tell us that there's

always one that's done more than others, but that really does not make them

any better, faster maybe, but not better.

Yes many people go alone, but you will be picked up at the airport or at the

border by Dr. Kuri. Also we have a very active group in California and a lot

of people are in TJ almost daily to get adjustments etc; so if you let us know

your dates, someone will pop in and say hi!

If you have any more questions about Dr. Kuri do not hesitate to email me.

Also be very wary of people who contact you and start the "hard sell" with

another Doc, they are probably the ones that are getting paid. But when all

else is said and done the final choice is yours and yours alone. Good Luck!

Hi
Ive been reading alot of stories about Mexico and the doctors who do
the band surgery. I am really confused now. I looked up Dr. Kuri and
I thought I had found the right doctor. Now there are so many people
writing about going to other doctors because of more experience I am
afraid. Should I just start calling the offices in Mexico? I live in
Arizona and have never been to Mexico before. I finally saved enough
money to have this surgery. Do the offices of the other doctors in
Mexico speak english? Dr. Kuris nurse was very nice and could speak
english. I have never called out of the country is it expensive? I
read that many people go to Mexico without anyone going with them. Is
this safe? Im sorry I sound like an idiot. I just thought this was
going to be simple. I want to have this surgery before to long. I
just thought all I had to do was join this group for support and it
would be very helpful instead its just confusing. I'm not sure if I
joined the right group or not. Thanks for reading my airhead message.

2006-10-16 20:17:45

I know I haven't had mine the longest, but I have had it since December of 2001. I had the old model port with the faulty design and it broke at about 18 months out, I got the new design put in and it never cost me a thing, I also have not heard of many problems with the new design either. My fill level is still not quite as good as it was before the break, so I struggle on occasion to maintain the weight loss (over 100 lbs) but I can take care of that, and will do this weekend with a fill from Dr.Kuri on Saturday.

Posting on this board has not been one of my priorities over the
last 6 months but I do read most of the journals. I appreciate all
of your thoughts and tidbits of knowledge. April 30 was my 6 month
date and I have been reflecting on how this procedure has changed my
life. The biggest change has been my attitude about life. "If it
is to be it is up to me". I took charge of my weight issue and I
have now lost 92 lbs. It hasn't been easy! I have been frustrated
at times when I can't eat. I haven't had a cheeseburger since Apr.
29 (I miss them)! I have gotten into the soft food habit that I was
warned against (mainly soup). I struggle to get enough protein! But
overall, I couldn't be more pleased with my band. For every reason
that I hate my band, I love it more. I now have to be very careful
about buying too many clothes. I used to wear a size 52 pants and
had to shop at the FFG store (F***ing Fat Guy). I now shop at
Nordstrom and they actually have sizes bigger than mine (size 40
what a concept). I have alot of new friends that I have made in
support group! Emotionally, I still have many of the same issues I
have had for years and I think that probably needs to be my next
area of work (I hate counselling)! Thanks for being a part of this

Look Ma!!! I've got the band!!!

2006-10-16 01:31:35

Well, I am home and I must say I feel pretty good.
Barbara was simply wonderful and I highly recommend
enlisting her help if you decide to use Dr. Rodriguez
in Acuna. That being said...
I got the 11cm band and there is 2cm fill in it
already because it was too big for my stomach. I
don't think that I have as much restriction as many do
but I am sure not going to test the waters either!!
LOL
Dr. Rod also fixed a huge hiatal hernia for me. He
almost had to because it was right where the port had
to go. I also have a little umbilical hernia but he
felt it best to leave it alone because of the pain
factor and that it would need an additional incision.
Of course I didn't argue.
I am a little light on the exercise because I am still
sore mostly because of the hernia thing. I am getting
on my gazelle though, little by little. :-)
One thing I would suggest is that if you need
something, you make sure you ask for it. They won't
ask you. Even with my spanish, I didn't feel that I
had any advantage over someone who didn't know
spanish. Look up some potential phrases and words
like pain, bathroom etc if you need to. Otherwise you
can say pee and they will get the jist.
I was the second one to go this past thursday so the
anxiety sort of built up. I am one who can't stand
needles and the nurses did the best job I can ever
remember of poking me. So once my IV was in and it
was my turn, I started to get really nervous. I
hopped onto the table to be wheeled into surgery and I
was given one last shot. The last thing I remember
was Barbara taking a picture of me in my highly
drugged state. Why do I feel that she kept a copy to
blackmail me with?
The first thing I remember was gas pains and looking
over at the nurse putting meds into my IV. And those
stupid stockings. Well, I take that back. I kind of
like those stockings. he he
I did have some mother of gas pains during that night
and some nausea but I was given something for the
nausea. I would have given my right arm for something
for the gas pains. I noticed that when I wiggled back
and forth, it helped to disperse the the gas faster.
When I had an episode, my chest and my back hurt at
the same time. Talk about discomfort!!!!
Besides the long ride home, I am very pleased with my
experience with Dr. Rod and the hospital. He has a
wonderful personality and bedside manner. He looks
just like his picture on his website too.
Word of caution: if you use Medicredit, please double
and triple check that everything is in order. I
almost developed an ulcer. I'll leave it at that.
Right now I am getting 42+ grams of protein a day with
2 shakes and water and half a can of soup per day. I
know that it hasn't been that long since I've been
banded but I think I am doing pretty good.
I want to say HI and give a big hug and wave to my
band buddy!

Trish, Things will just keep getting better. Each day is a step to recovery- remember that you had major surgery and it takes a while to recover from that . After my banding in July, I begged the Dr. to take the band back out-- I didn't care what it cost or what the "removal" would do to me. I felt so miserable I wanted to die.I could not swallow anything. Thank goodness the doc ignored my request. I am so happy with my band now and you will be too in time. Be good to yourself, take things slow and before you know it,those pounds will start leaving.

Trish <trishnewman@...

I have to be honest, I don't think I would recommend this to anyone! LOL! Hopefully I will feel differently when the weight starts coming off. I am down 4 lbs, but feel like that is such a small amount for being on liquids only since last Thursday.

I have such terrible gas pain. Anytime I sip anything it feels like it is stuck. It does go down and I have had nothing come back up, but if this is how I am going to feel from now on, I would rather be heavy.

I was not happy with much of what happened in TJ. I had several things happen that shouldn't have, and much of it I feel was due to the language barrier. I am not going to go into all of that. It is over and done. I am banded.

I just hope that I can learn to be happy about it.

Trust me Trish I can relate! I was banded 9/30/03 and I felt the
same way when I returned. I was expecting to get on the scale and
have lost 10 pounds and I only lost 1. I was thinking, "I've only
been on liquids!" But when I looked at the number of calories in
Gatorade and in V-8 Splash I realized if I sipped on it all day I was
consuming well over 1800 calories. So I started sticking to Ice Tea
with Equal, Crystal Light, Water and only a 10 oz glass of Gatorade
and V-8 4-5x a day.
I really hate the feeling that something is stuck that is why I
haven't had a fill yet. I'm on solids now and am hungry too. I can
eat the same foods just less of them. Chicken gets stuck unlesss it's
nuggets. Just hang in there. I lost 17 pounds the first month.
Just think if you loose 2-3 pounds a week. You'll be out of the 200's
by Valentine's Day. It is a slow process but it does add up over
time.
Hang in there you stomach is swollen now. As time continues you'll
wish you had the swollen stomach because then you'll be dealing with
hunger and cravings like I am now.

I did mention that you are a registered Nurse are you not in California and for some reason you seem to not like me even though I was there in the operating room when you has your surgery and helped you with everything that weekend . For all those who may read this rediculous posting let me tell you that six weeks ago I suffered from Gallbladder disease which many of us know that happens very often with weight loss surgery and Dr. sanchez removed my gallbladder as well as my appendix. I had some complications from surgery and stayed for a few days in the hospital. I have my operative report and false allegations are very serious when making statements like this. Oh yes, I would imagine that if your stomach is very swollen, it is bound to put more

pressure on the incisions.

The only trouble I had after I got home, was doing laundry to soon and

that was stupid, but other than that it was pretty good. I did not need to take

my pain pills after I got home, but I couldn't sleep on my left side where the port

Do not take for gospel what you read here, from anybody. But especially not if the person is giving you details of numbers of surgeries, and they are NOT a patient of that Doctor.

Please don't upset yourself, call the Doctors office and speak to an actual member of staff and not the paid advocate. But the best person to ask is the Doctor himself. Give him a call he will be happy you did...and don't worry. :-)

I have emails from my Doctor's US "contact", or whatever you call
them, stating that my doctor has done soooo many surgeries and gave an
exact number. I have emailed a few of his patients and they all had
nice things to say. I have spoken to my doctor on the phone twice!!
I have been promised a fill doctor in my state (and have been in
contact with that office). I just read here that he has only done a
half dozen! I have sent them $2000 as a down payment/airfare! Have I
made a HUGE mistake? How can I check to see who is telling the truth?

Hi Anna Marie,
I notice most of the Mexican surgeons list their membership in various
lapband and surgicial societies. I have tried to verify these societies and
groups by doing a google search. My results were disappointing. Since you
are a patient advocate for some of these surgeons, how and where do I go to
look up and check out these Mexican medical groups and societies. Does
Mexico have their equivalent of AMA? This seems to be a common question that
is asked by neewbies checking out surgery in Mexico. Thanks.

2006-10-11 05:29:44

Please all bandsters take a look at the response I got from the bandster moderator when asking to join the group forum.

She feels there should not be any members whom are medical professional in bariatrics on her board.. Even though I am also a patient and could use the support forum myself..

----Ann Marie..
I will look into the listing issue. It is a self-serve list and we do
not closely monitor it. Duplicate entries for anyone will be
removed. We plan to have an automated listing database out by
the end of the year that will eliminate this sort of issue.
As for you joining - I do not feel comfortable with that at this time.
We have had issues with Sanchez's practice for nearly 4 years
now. Some of these issues have centered around you, some of
them haven't. At this point, I do not think we have any band
professionals who actively post on our list. (Jessie Ahroni reads,
but keeps her comments to SmartBandsters.)
My main goal in running this patient-based list is to keep it
exactly that - patient-based. The few medical professionals we
do have on the list are not in bariatric practice and do not speak
or work for any surgeon. I find that their information and advice is
solid and supplements what people should be getting from their
own surgeon anyways.
Perhaps you would feel more comfortable in an unmoderated
list? I know that there are 2 Sanchez lists and that this should
provide you access to a pretty big group of people to share
information with.
I'm sorry if this is not what you were hoping for. I just need to
make decisions that are best for my list.
Cheers,
Layla

Re: Xpost--Have I harmed my band?

Cathy,
Try protein drinks in the am, progress to a 1/2c of soup for lunchand
then try one soft scrambled egg/cheese for dinner. Or try very thin
Cream of Wheat for breakfast (1/2c), or a bowl of warm broth. If
you're having repeated difficulties eating "solids" in the am, stay
away from them. In fact, I've never been able to eat "solids" for
half of the day since being banded; I've read others bands react the
same way too. Good luck.

Re: [mexicanbandsters] Dr. Arturo Rodriguez

2006-10-10 09:49:46

Hi Gertie,

Dr. Arturo Rodriguez was the first assistant for Dr. Rodolfo Sanchez in Monterrey, Mexico. He assisted him there for nearly two years in surgery. They departed working together last November and since Dr. Arturo Rodriguez as I was last updated upon from the band reps has only performed half a dozen band surgeries himself. So though I have heard he is a very honest and good surgeon I do think he does not have enough experience yet. If you are choosing to go to Mexico to get banded I will list here for you who I personally think are very experienced Dr. Sanchez, Dr. Rumbaut, Dr. Lopez, Dr. Ortiz. I think you will find that all the surgeons have much experience not just at performing the surgeries bu also knowing how to handle all medical needs of a banded patients. Hope this helps.

Re: [mexicanbandsters] reflux

That's just what Dr. Ortiz told me. Don't know what to say except he was right,
for me anyway. I think most, not all, of the acid remains in the lower portion
of your stomach. With the band in place it can't back up into your esophagus

Hi Gerdie,

Where are you from that Monterrey is so hard to get into? Even from the west coast it is not more than a 3 hour flight. I do understand that Dr. Sanchez charges a bit more than the Doctors in TJ and I can tell you first hand it is mainly because the hospital charges are a bit higher in Monterrey than in TJ. You maybe might want to consult the Doctor in Monterrey to see if he can assist you in any way if your decision is strictly financial. Although should you choose to have the surgery in TJ I know that Dr. Sanchez referrs most his patients for aftercare or even surgical to Dr. Lopez there in TJ. I have heard nothing but terrific things of him, he proctors in the US for Inamed training many American surgeons to do this life giving procedure. Well I hope this is of some help, whatever you decide may you have the best of success with your weight loss.

Sincerely, AnnMarie

How to trim and/or clip your replys to your email messages.
First you need to copy contents from the received email message or
received post from this group and paste it in your reply email.
To copy the message that you want to paste in your reply email,
first you have to highlight the message. To highlight the message
place the curser on the message and left click on the message
from the starting point of the message that you want to copy
and keep it pressed and drag the mouse to the end point of the
message that you want to copy. Now the text color will become
blue or black according to the content of the message. Once the
text becomes highlighted, right click your mouse after placing
the mouse curser on the highlighted portion of the message and
select the Copy option from the menu. Once you copy the message,
open the Reply email window and place the curser where ever you
want to copy the message, Right click the mouse and select the
Paste option from the drop down menu. The highlighted lines will
automatically appear here. Now you can start typing your reply.
You can do this multiple times for as many questions as you want
to answer.
IF YOU JUST WANT TO REPLY TO AN EMAIL, THIS IS THE BEST OPTION!!
How to set your email so you automatically have a clean email
reply message screen.
First go to Help and Settings on your address bar menu. Click
Email settings. From Email settings select Send and Reply.
Uncheck the box that reads "Include the original message in
the reply". This automatically gives you a clean reply screen
for all your email replys and any highlighted reply's. Don't
forget to click the "save changes" box.
To add a permanent signature to your email replys.
From here hit your back button and then click on Signature. From
here you can type in your signature and any other info that you
want to include automatically in every one of your Email
messages. Again click "save changes" box. You only have to do
these once. If you don't like the changes you can always go
back and change them.
I hope this helps clear up some of the clutter in your email
messages, and it will reduce the storage space used up on your
computer and keeps the Moderator of this group happy.
Good luck and Thank You for your cooperation.

i also asked the gals who work at his front desk if he would correct

i requested either another fill or a refund and he denied both.
i have been getting a lot of feedback on him and from what i

I've had three c-sections and it doesn't even compare! The lap-band done

days after the surgery and no one even knew I'd had surgery. You are
sore around the port site and tired from the surgery and travel, but it
is in no way comparable to a c-section! You'll be in for a wonderful

I'm misearable.I've tried allergy medicines, thinking that is the
problem. However, I did not have this problem prior to fill. Just
minor allergy. I do not have a sore throat either.Sorry for long
