Weight Gain

2008-03-31 15:31:35

I am 8 weeks post-op. First 6 weeks I lost 30 lb.
The 7th week no change, and this week I have put on
5 lb. I did not go for adjustment on the 8th week
since I was still losing weight. The last couple of
days it feels as if I don't have a lap-band. I am
hungry, my stomach growls, and worst of all I think
about food. I am not sensible about food any more.
I am very scared, I did not expect this. I though I
was a very compliant patient, but right now I can't
say that about myself.
I will call my doctor's office tomorrow for a fill
appointment. I could take a week or longer to see
the doctor, I just hope I don't gain any more.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Hi Sam! I know you have read the things on here about Dr. Kuri and
I wanted you to know I was also banded by him on 3-10-04. I had a
wonderful experience and his skills are great. I chose the 8500$
package and was really satisfied. The hospital is old but clean and
I was so out of it the first day I wouldn't have known where I was
anyway. If you choose Dr. Kuri you will be satisfied. From the
time I made my first call to getting it done was 2 weeks. I had no
problem getting in as soon as I wanted to. Good Luck!

2008-03-30 10:25:51

Lauren, I am glad you have called your doctor. What you are describing could
be esophagitis. I developed this and had to unfilled and take protonix and
some other things to clear it up before I could be filled again. I also had
to have an endoscopy done of my esophagus. When I ate certain things, like
yogurt for example, it burned and hurt as it went down. Here is a link that
will help explain it.

Esophagus Pain x-post

2008-03-30 05:17:41

I had a fill three weeks ago and I feel like I've been getting
increasingly tighter (I'm not sure if this is related to my current
concern). I have had increasing pain in when I eat or drinking.
This morning I had a soy chai and it hurt when , I think, it went
through my esophagus into my stomach around the esophageal valve.
The pain was that bad and I thought that maybe I was still tight
from sleeping so a few hours after that drink I tried some yogurt,
ouch. The pain was worse than ever not initially but at some point
after going down my esophagus. Has anyone else experienced this?
I left a message for my Dr but I wanted to see if anyone could give
me feedback about this.
Lauren

Tina, I was just banded in Monterrey Mexico by Dr Sanchez. He
decides where to put the port and which size band each person
needs. My port is to the left and above my belly button. I cant feel
it now (although I do feel some soreness in the muscle)...maybe when
the fat starts to melt away I will be able to :)

Info for Sam (Dr. Rodriguez for me)

2008-03-29 03:43:00

Hi Sam
In the event you have not discovered this the LapTalk forum for
discussion you might want to check it out. You can search for threads
that are specific to your doctor, state and many many other topic
specific questions. Here is the link if you want to check it out ;-)
http://lapbandtalk.com
As for myself, I have decided to go with Dr. Rodriguez at:
www.Lapbandinformation.com
www.Thebariatric.com
Patti is who I have been talking with and she has been very helpful
and friendly. What information is not on the website about pre-op
and post-op nutrition, they send to you in the mail.
Pricing for the package I chose was compariable to others. My PC
physician has agreed to provide me with the post-op care that I need
and I have found someone locally to do fills with in the event that I
do not want to go back down to Monterrey.
Had I chosen, I could of had the surgery as quickly as within two
weeks; however I scheduled it for 5/10/04.
Personally I have researched and watched and researched & gone to
doctors since 1990 and always opted out of gastric bypass at the
end. When I discovered the lap-banding procedure and started doing
the research I knew that this was for me. My insurance doesn't pay
for it, so I am self-paying. I am just thankful that I am at a place
in my life where I have the means to be able to do this.
Best of luck to you in your search for the "right Doctor" for you. I
clearly understand how nerve racking it can be deciding. Clearly tho,
it is a crap shoot to some degree. What one person considers a good
experieince could be less than to another. The certifications and
board memberships were important to me. But, to each their own ;-)

abdominal muscles and that's where my port is and all the incisions
are. Right now I get very full after just a cup of juice but that may
be due to my stomach being swollen. But if I have good restriction

Hi, Angie-
I'm from MN, but haven't yet decided to get the adjustable lap band. I'm
leaning strongly toward it, though. I am debating about self paying, and if
I do that, do I go to doctor here, or to MX. That's why I joined this
group!

Self Pay - IRS Deduction?

2008-03-28 10:27:31

I saw this question posted recently & since I needed the information
for myself I went to the irs.gov website and found the following
information that I thought I would share:
"Operations
You can include in medical expenses amounts you pay for legal
operations that are not for unnecessary cosmetic surgery."
and
"Weight-Loss Program
You can include in medical expenses amounts you pay to lose weight if
it is a treatment for a specific disease diagnosed by a physician
(such as obesity, hypertension, or heart disease). This includes fees
you pay for membership in a weight reduction group and attendance at
periodic meetings. You cannot include membership dues in a gym,
health club, or spa as medical expenses, but you can include separate
fees charged there for weight loss activities.
You cannot include the cost of diet food or beverages in medical
expenses because the diet food and beverages substitute for what is
normally consumed to satisfy nutritional needs. You can include the
cost of special food in medical expenses only if:
The food does not satisfy normal nutritional needs,
The food alleviates or treats an illness, and
The need for the food is substantiated by a physician.
The amount you can include in medical expenses is limited to the
amount by which the cost of the special food exceeds the cost of a
normal diet."

question about enlarged heart and lap band

2008-03-27 20:54:46

I just wondered if anyone who has had the surgery done has an
enlarged heart and if it gave them any problems after surgery.
I'm 8 days postop and can't seem to do much of anything w/out my
heart racing or paining. Could it be the esopogus still spasming and
pushing against the heart? If anyone has had this happen could you
please enlighten me as to what to expect. Walking at all or doing
more then a few movements at a time seem to set it off. Thanks for
your help. Lori

Dr. Rumbaut is great! He has done over 2,000 of these lapbands with
no deaths and he has the lap band himself. He has trained over 100
US doctors in the lap band procedure. Check out belighter.com and
email Shelly. She works for Dr. Rumbaut and she was able to get me
an appointment within 2 weeks. Email me if you would like her email
address. A friend and I met here at mexican bandsters are being

Some questions -- (and I apologize right off if I don't respond quickly I am on digest mail). Is anyone here from Minnesota? I am meeting a LOT of resistance to the idea of getting the band done in Mexico. They are talking like it is being done in a shed with a dirt floor. If yes, who are you getting your fills from. I got a listing of doctors from the ObesityHelps site.

Second -- how fast can you usually get the surgery done? A matter of a couple weeks? Do they make you go through classes etc down there if you are self pay. I am guessing no.

I am in the process of ending my old job and getting a new one so if I could squeeze it in the week between it would be fabulous.

I'm thinking of Dr. Kuri or Dr. Rumbaut. Are they hard to get appointments with?

thanks for any assistance.

swedish band fills...any advice on amt for first fill???

2008-03-26 11:50:28

My daughter is having a fill by a U.S. doctor Thursday and he said
he would put in 2cc. I emailed the doctor who put it in and asked
him how much he would put in if it were him doing it and he said 3 or
4cc would be fine. I'm wondering if 2cc is too little for a first
fill with the Swedish band and if we should ask him to put in 3
instead. Any advice???

Carolyn,
I was like you. By day 5 I was so tired and worn out I could hardly
move. I received a suggestion that helped me tremendously and maybe
it will help you. I found out I was not taking in enough protein. I
went to Lindora (you don't have to be a patient there) and purchased
their protein juice drinks. They come in powder form and you mix with
water. I drank three or four packets a day and within 24-48 hours I
began to feel normal again. Good luck with your healing process and
continue to treat your stomach carefully.
Lori A.

I am embarrassed to say this....

2008-03-25 08:05:11

I have not bounced back. I am 10 days post op and I have had a
couple of good days but mostly I am bone tired. It took all I had
to take a shower and wash my hair. I had adhesions that made my
surgery take longer and I was allergic to the anesthesia so I awoke
sick as a dog. I am normally a active person my job is not a
sedentary one, I cook, clean do yard work. I am not a lazy person
but I can hardly move. I am scheduled to start work tomorrow but I
am wondering how I am going to do.
I started waking on my tread mill when I got back so I did move
around. I did laundry and cook and then boom the tired took over.
I know most of the posts relate that the majority of people go back
to work in 3 days. I am going to call the Doctor if tomorrow does
not go better but I wanted to hear from ya'll first. Is there
anyone out there that has had a similiar experience. Calling all
slow bouncers for input.
Thank You,
Carolyn

Gosh, I am so sorry it is taking you so long to bounce back. I was pretty fatigued right after surgery but was before surgery so I can't really blame it on the surgery. I can only tell you what I did and still do at the direction of my doctor. Multi-vitamins 3x's a day. 60 grams protein a day, try 3x's a day at 20/20/20. At least 64 ozs of water and don't forget your calcium. No lifting over 5 lbs first 4 weeks and no extraneous chores or exercise for 4-6 weeks. No sugar no milk. Although we cannot see it, our insides have a lot to heal. Be good to yourself, God Bless.

Great high protein pasta!

2008-03-24 15:06:45

I don't know how many people on the list have heard of Whole Foods but it's a big natural foods grocery store chain. I love it there even though it can be a bit pricy. Anyway, I was looking longingly in the pasta section when I stumbled upon a great find. The product is made by Papadini and is called Hi-Protein Pure Lentil Bean Pasta. This is the rotini version. Ok, per 2oz serving, it has 13g of protein, 5g of fiber, 30% RDA iron, 33g carbo, 10 cal from fat. They compare the pasta with meat and other pasta.

I just cooked some for my daughter because she loves pasta dishes and the rotini is really firm. I guess you would call it Al Dente. For those pasta loves, this could be a great alternative.

I'll let you know how my hunny bunny likes it! :-D

I was banded last friday, and have a low grade fever today, does anyone

My day is April 14th! (X post)

2008-03-23 23:13:21

Hi everyone! I am being banded on April 14th in
Monterrey Mexico by Dr Sanchez. I have been looking
into WLS for about 2 years and I think I have made the
right choice. I am concerned with getting adaquate
after care but I have found a local doctor for fills
and when I told my PCP he thought it was a good idea.I
think my biggest fear is not being able to use food as
my drug of choice anymore. Im sure a lot of people had
that fear before they were banded also. But I am
determined to be a success.I love these boards and
read all the messages.
On to the next subject...If you are being banded by Dr
Sanchez between the 13-16 email me!

Dr Alberto Aceves in Mexicali.....ratings and opinions please

Has anybody gone to Dr. Aceves and had the procedure done?
Is there anyone you would recommend?
I need solid information to settle the fears of friends and family.

Road trip time

2008-03-23 05:48:31

Well, I'm off on a ten day cross country trip in a UHaul 24foot truck.
My daughter (age 30) will also be along. We're moving my mother's
stuff so she can go to assisted living. It'll be a fun trip, and I
trust that my band will keep me on track.....after all, I lost five
pounds on a 12 day cruise, so....we'll see.
I don't expect to lose on the trip, since I'm relatively stable and
relatively at goal (lost four pounds in last five weeks, and not
complaining), but hope not to gain any with evil road food.
Best to all.....I may check in depending on availability of
connectivity....or may not.

Re: What's up with this!

2008-03-23 04:45:59

Jane
Sounds very normal for a band...eating regular foods one day and the
next not being able to drink a protein shake without getting stuck.
I've tried to find a reason for the abovementioned, yet my theories
are always proven wrong. I thought it was because of the weather, my
female cycle, how relaxed or tensed I was while eating...it doesn't
matter what it is or where it is; when my band wants to pass food it
does and when it doesn't, I sigh and remember the old days when I was
able to eat anything and my butt was big :) YEAH BAND !!!! A new fill
can kick in immediately or have a delay for a week or two. A tight
fill can loosen and then tighten back up and a loose fill can stay
loose one day and tighten up the next--vice versa--go figure! When
I'm tight (have been for six months on my last fill) there is no way
you could bribe my band to eat pasta/gingerbread--it just wouldn't
pass. Watch your fills, give them a week or two and if you can still
consume the "no-no" foods, get another fill for better restriction.
Good Luck!

What's up with this!

2008-03-22 20:06:02

Hello all,

I don't usually post, just read others comments.

I don't undersatnd how I can eat most anything one meal, then every little nibble gets stuck the next.

Yesterday I ate lunch at 'Souper Salad' and had a good sized salad, soup, pasta, gingerbread, and ice cream. Then last night and today I have the 'stuck feeling' every time I nibble at meat or eggs!

Another thing, I had my 1st real fill a week ago Thursday. I hadn't noticed a difference until yesterday. What does a fill do, have delayed reactions????

This makes no sense to me. Any ideas?

Jane

Re: Dr. Juan Antonio Lopez Corvala

2008-03-22 10:58:02

Hi,
I've had experience with Dr Lopez, he was the surgeon for my banding
in September of 2003. I have had experience with three Mexican Dr
and I have to say that I can not recommend Dr Lopez. He is a good
surgeon but the aftercare is bad. I know of three other women
including me who had surgery with him in September of 2003 that got
port-infections. Dr Lopez's staff was easy to contact until after
surgery, I can never get a hold of them and good luck getting
someone to return an email or voicemail. Dr Lopez knew that I had
little money to pay for the port removal or replacement and he still
over charged me. When my port infection was first discovered Dr
Carmen (the physician that does follow up care for Dr Lopez) was
supposed to send me antibiotics, it took me three weeks to get
them! Dr Rumbaut in Monterrey did my first band in September of
1999, he is also a good surgeon but the aftercare was not very
good. Dr Ortiz/Dr Martinez replaced my port and that was by far the
best experience I have had with a Mexican Dr.
I have to say that I strongly urge you to look into another Surgeon,
if you have nay questions please let me know, I would be happy to
share details with you.

OUCH! My Port!

2008-03-21 23:59:04

Hi group! It's been 20 days since I've been banded. I've been doing
really well and seemed to be healing quickly. My port site was tender
but not sore. Then yesterday my dog jumped up on my bed and landed on
my left side. At the time it didn't hurt too bad but as the day went
on I became more and more sore. So then like an idiot, I changed the
litter box and without thinking lifted the litter bag (which weighs
more than 20lbs). So needless to say, last night I was very
uncomfortable. It hurt to stand straight up. I was hunched over like
an old woman. I put an ice pack on it and it seemed to help a little.
Today I'm slightly better but still more sore than my usual. I hope
by Monday I'll feel a lot better.I'm having all these terrible
thoughts about my port flipping or disconnecting but I think it's
just really sore. So after all that said, have any of you done
anything really stupid like this not long after surgery and should I
assume this new pain is normal?? At what point should I seek doctor's
care? Thanks! Katrina -13lbs

May 7th is the day

2008-03-21 13:27:51

Well...I've set the date. Ya know, I am more nervous now than when I
got married or had a baby!
I read your postings each day..and I know others face the same fears
I do. But, I do feel that Dr. Ortiz knows what he is doing, and will
do his **** best if something did go wrong (God forbid).
So...if anyone else is going to be in the same neck of the
woods...I'll see ya at the Oasis ;)

Great decision TJ! of course I'm biased! <grin
I know you will have a great experience and believe me, the liquids afterward will be ample and you will be satisfied! Toward the end of that phase you may get burnt out but just remember it's a time for everything to heal and you want to go by the diet that he gives you when you get to his office. Actually it's not all liquids as you will see and it is quite do-able!!

"Shipp, Cassie" <cassie_shipp@...

It's getting closer! The Texas Bandster Bash and Wellness Conference is
almost here and we're really excited!
We have speakers with topics like "LapBand(tm) Adjustments: Tighter is Not
Better, So What is Tight Enough? ", possible complications, dressing for our
changing bodies, the importance of aftercare, What is Lymphedema?, how to
determine what your metabolism rate truly is, and many many more.
There will be 2 different plastic surgeons, 2 therapists, an internist, a
registered diabetes educator, 2 nutritionists and lots of others there
speaking and ready to answer our questions....and as we all know, bandsters
have lots of questions!
We've scheduled a live band on Friday night to help us shake our bandster
butts and Saturday night we've left free of plans so you can
play with the new friends you've made! And we've planned a menu of delicious
bandster friendly foods for Friday night, Saturday's
Luncheon and Sunday morning. You don't want to miss the fun!!
The schedule is up on the website (www.texasbandsterbash.com) and should be
pretty close to reality. We may have to make a few small adjustments to
accommodate last minute changes.
If you haven't made your hotel reservations and registered, please take a
moment and do it today. We're looking forward to seeing you
there! (And don't forget to bring clothes for the clothing swap! And
plenty of room to bring some new stuff home with you.)

Deborah's endoscopy-erosion

2008-03-18 08:22:25

Hi,
Deborah had her endoscopy today. They found something really weird.
The tube or catheter coming from the band has pushed a hole through
the stomach, and is actually looped inside the stomach about 8 inches
down from the band. The band itself is not the problem. Dr. Shayani
at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago has never seen anything like
this. If anyone has, please post. Dr. S. will consult with Dr.
Lopez in Tiajuana. The only thing we know for sure is that the
infected catheter must be removed and the hole repaired. Her surgery
will be Monday or Tuesday at the latest. No decision has been made
about the band yet.
Take care, glenna

Right. Follow your doctor's orders. You've got plenty of energy and

Susanne,
I am with you too. 2 weeks out. You seem to have alot more energy than i did. I am feeling great right now.
how many cal do you think you have each day. I seem to get between 6 and 800.
up to 6 glasses water per day. i use 2 0z protein @30 grams of protein in am and 23grams of protein in the apple nectar drink (taste like green apple juice) and have 2 yogert smoothies and 2 or 3 slices of shart cheese. thats my day plus dissolvable vitamins and some oils for women,
I have cheated some seem to need more food to not be weak. But i want to stay on course as best i can. The first 2 weeks its important not to hurt the band by eatting wrong foods. Hope you continue to feel good and do well.

Four to six months after surgery MANY patients lose hair. Some also
lose hair after ANY large weight loss. But many lose it after ANY
surgery. So you've got two reasons, both of which stress the body.
Having protein is good, but that isn't the cause. It will grow back.

I'm not sure how you could end up disabled, but....I suppose if you
want to worry about crazy things, go ahead. Yeah, in the US you might
get some money after spending years on lawyers and trials...or you
might not. You probably wouldn't have any recourse in Mexico.
However, the risks are VERY small, and if any doc accidentally cuts
your aorta or something crazy like that, you're dead either place, and
you don't need to worry then. You can curse him from heaven.
(Hmmm....does cursing go on in heaven?....naaahhhh, you'll be happy to
be there, not somewhere hotter)
Finally, most of the Mexican surgeons are more experienced than most
of the American surgeons, and most of them are practicing in hospitals
that are as good or better than most US ones.
Worry is natural, but I wouldn't sweat the one in a million chances of
a big problem. You've got more risk driving to work every day.

Need to know what you think!

2008-03-15 19:35:55

Okay, I took some of your advice and decided to use someone locally
for my 2nd fill. Here's my problem - I do not feel anymore
restriction now than I did before! I was taken from 1.8cc's to 2.8
cc's yesterday and today I was able to eat a whole subway wrap for
dinner. It did not even feel tight!!! Do you all feel restriction
right away after a fill? Should I give this 2 weeks? I had my
first fill in TJ almost 3 weeks ago and had no restriction so
decided to get another and now I am so disappointed that I am not
tighter.
The gal that filled me did say that if the fill does not kick in
that she would tweak it some more for free but to wait at least 2
weeks to give it a chance.
What do you all think??

Malpractice

2008-03-15 03:51:45

I am considering getting banded in Mexico but I am concern about the
unlikely mishap. What happens if there is a problem like the doctor
makes a big mistake. In the US if my doctor did something grossly
negligent and I ended up disabled, I could sue and get some kind of
financial support. In Mexico, I assume there is no recourse,
correct?
Should I just take the risk?

a sudden you start to have this.
Do you have any other symptoms? Have you had a fill recently?
possibly you are too tight?
Hope that you are getting enough nutrients. Take care and good luck
I guess maybe I worry when I read things like this cause I had my
band slip. Just becareful.... If you are throwing up alot or Pb'ing
contact your Dr.
Connie

Re: Possible Port/Band Slippage?

2008-03-14 19:24:52

Bianca,
You will suffer badly from reflux and alot of throwing up (not just
pb'ing)if your band slips. I believe as you lose weight your port
may be a bit discomforting because it comes closer to the surface of
your body.
(Dan isn't that what you discribed way back when?) I believe I read
that on the board here a while back. To me you really don't have
much to worry about at this point. Just relax and enjoy life.

Re: How do I narrow it down?

2008-03-14 08:07:39

TJ,
I'm partial to Dr. Kuri but the other doctors in Tijuana have their
fan base as well! I would suggest that you check out the websites and
call the doctors. If you talk to the doctors on the phone that means
that they make time for you and you can get a feel for the way they
conduct themselves and you can usually get a feeling one way or the
other as to what they're like. I would steer clear of high pressure
from anyone who tries to sell you on a doctor by putting other
doctors down. Good luck with your decision.

How do I narrow it down?

2008-03-14 02:44:19

Hi,

This is my first post. I live in Mukilteo, WA.

I'm a self pay and would like to go to Mexico because it's less expensive and less wait for the surgery. I've been reading the archives and it seems like you all have your favorites. I've only seen one really strong negative about a doctor and want to avoid him, of course. The only other negative I've seen is about another doctor's employee because he overzealously promotes the doctor. But I'm assuming that the doctor himself is stil well regarded?

I was considering Dr. Rodriguez in Monterrey and Dr. Joya because they both offer a package of airfare/hotel/surgery. However, they are further south, so it does cost more to fly down for fills or other problems. So I'm probably leaning towards Tijuana. But I just can't seem to narrow it down.

My other concern is if I decide to have my fills done locally, how difficult is it to locate someone? I know a lot of doctors will not take on patients they did not perform the surgery on.

I would appreciate any advise - both good or bad on the Mexican doctors.

Thanks,

TJ

I'm in Idaho, and one of many reasons I chose to go to Tijuana instead
of Monterrey was that the airfare was a third as much, and the trip
was less than half the time. Check the airfares and times out of
SeaTac and you'll see a similar difference, I'm sure. From SeaTac
you're just a quick hop on United or Alaska to San Diego.

I had my surgery almost a year ago. I have had no problems what so
ever. I can eat anything I want and very rarely does anything get
stuck. My problem is about the last week, everything is getting
stuck. I am having a hard time eating just about everything. I have
no problems drinking and nothing hurts. My question is am I just
irritating my band area by trying to eat. I am going to go back on
liquids for a few days and see if that helps. If anyone else has had
this happen please let me know.

Possible Port/Band Slippage?

2008-03-10 17:35:23

Well guys,
I have been having a really weird pain in my port area. Granted, I
did wear a minimizer which came down to that area and I am hoping
that the discomfort that I've had for the past 2 days is the result
of that. At the same time, I always worry about my port/band
slipping. I have not had any signs of a dislocation. I am still
restricted in the morning and pretty open at night. Maybe I am
stressing over nothing. I would have reflux or something right?
Anyway, has anyone else had discomfort in their port area which
developed into a serious problem?

He can be found on the web at Dr. Roberto Rumbaut. Dr. Rumbaut is a professional, very educated and respected by his peers, gracious and a lovely person. He is very through and makes sure you understand everything before you have surgery. He will visit you in your hotel room after surgery and also his assistant will come see you and be at your beckon call. His staff are equally educated and kind. Dr. Rumbaut did my surgery in January, 2004, and I have zero complaints. Recommend him highly.

Probably about 10K, but why not email or call them and ask? There are
often specials and such with many of the docs, so they're not always
the same.

BAJANOR OBESITY CENTER ?

http://www.bajanor.com/ingles/team.htm They sure don't make it easy
to find out which doc it is. Dr. Ponce de Leon. Don't know much
about him. Their cheap package is pretty minimalist, apparently a day
surgery.
Wouldn't be my first choice, but check out the website further.

It is an xray. But one that instead of a picture on film, puts a
"movie" of what is happening, live, on a TV screen. Can be done in
any position. No pain.

Fluoroscope and flipped port

2008-03-07 23:22:15

What exactly is a fluoroscope? Does it hurt, is it done sitting, standing, or lying down? What will this tell them about a port that is out of position to fill? Do they flip the port while you are being fluorscoped and then fill it? I guess I should ask the doctor, but I thought some of you might have had this type of experience and share with me how it went. My appt. with the doc is a few days away and am kind of anxious. Hate the unknown.

Appreciate it,

Cheryl

Surgery scheduled for April 20

2008-03-07 18:18:17

Hi, i was just wondering if anyone will be down in TJ around this
time for surgery or a fill? I am having surgery with Dr. Ortiz on
April 20th and due to an unforseen surgery for my mom who is my
support person I will be going down there alone, so if anyone will be
there around that time I would love to hear from you ~ Thank you ~
Sierra

First time fill....

2008-03-07 08:47:13

I appreciate everybody's input about my curiousity with starting
with a 3 cc fill. I have the Swedish band and I believe that does
have a larger capacity...and I will take your advice Sandy and
contact some fill Dr's closer if I am faced with an emergency.
Thanks to all....
Jennifer

Re: Crossing the border

Of course you basically are unlikely to need any paperwork at all the
get into Tijuana from California. The papers you need are for the
return trip - don't leave home without them. You need either a
passport or a DL together with evidence of citizenship which is
typically a birth certificate or voter registration. Chances are a
solo traveller will not be asked for the BC but is in for a long
delay if one of the lucky people who gets asked and doesn't have it.
For the kids you should have a signed letter of permission to make
the trip from their other parent (unless travelling with you)
together with evidence of citizenship. Again you probably won't be
asked to produce this but if you are asked and don't have it then you
have a big mess on your hands.
bon voyage, enjoy the shopping too

Crossing the border

2008-03-05 19:36:48

Hi, I was just wondering what kind of paperwork I need to get into
Mexico from California. I have surgery scheduled for May 14th with
Dr. Ortiz. I thought that I read that you only need your birth
certificate and ID.....I will be bringing my kids with me and
extending my stay a bit for a 'mini' vacation. So, since they are
just kids and have no picture ID...I am just wondering if their birth
certificates will be enough. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Re: My story

2008-03-05 13:54:08

That is a great story, so glad you shared it with all of us. My
banding was done in Tijuana by Dr. Lopez. I have lost 40 lbs since
September 26th, not a great amount but I am loosing....I will need a
fill in May, I just need to be a little more stricker with my food
choices......But I love my band....Keep up the good work and thanks
again for sharing.

one week post-op today

2008-03-05 05:06:26

My name is Susanne and I am one week postop today.
I want to share my experience with people that are still researching
and gathering information.
We were picked up at the airport Thusday morning and taken to all the
necessary places and the hotel.A well organized system running smooth!
We went to eat at the La Differencia - and shared in the rich Mexican
culture for a few hours. What good food!
Friday moning was surgery time - and I was pretty much "out" for the
day. Amazingly no pain after the surgery - just the catheter and it
was soon out.I had a feeling that I could not breath very
deep.Saturday morning came and I was up and went shopping in TJ.Just
moving a little slower than usual.
Sunday morning we were taken back to the US. We drove to Carlsbad and
enjoyed the flower bulb farm there and walked through Balboa Park in
San Diego before we flew home.
Ever since I am home I am continuing my life before the band - just
eating way less and cannot believe how minimal invasive this surgery
is! If you have a few days to spare - this is a good thing to do.I
feel asif I had a weekend away with my husband - not asif I had
surgery. The port incision reminds me of the surgery when I want to
bend and feel a little uncomfortable.
My advice is that you cannot make a better choice than to go with Dr
Kuri and his staff - and the staff at Hospital San Fransisco - all
top people.Thank you everybody that inspired me on the board to make
a good choice! Now, let the weightloss begin.

Thanks/how many cals.

Sylvia,
Thank you for sharing your story.I needed to hear it. I am just 10 days post op and am just getting started. Having trouble just staying on the liquid phase. Not really sure what and when to eat. Not hungery but weak. I am having 60 grams of protein each day and 1or two yogert smoothies. also 1or two slices of thin cheddar cheese. could i call you and get some ideas on what to do as to not start cheating already. Could you send me your number privately. To ctrctr21@.... Thanks for any help.
